What a Nice Little Gem: How Facebook Plans to Use Our Names & Photos

"Facebook does not give third party applications or ad networks the right to use your name or picture in ads. If we allow this in the future, the setting you choose will determine how your information is used."

The way I read this is that in the future Facebook may let ad providers use your photo and name on an ad that they show on other's pages... They wouldn't have this option unless they were considering it.... the default option is to let it happen.

What a shocker.

    John...well said, but it is something that is hard for many to get their heads around because we all started as Facebook customers fairly exclusively. But that is changing now that they are public, they have a different set of customers now and things will change. It will be interesting where Facebook will finally draw the line, because without us users, they don't have an offering. So they will have to find a fine balance between pleasing the stakeholders and pleasing the customer...but what else is new in business right? It just seems so much more obvious with Facebook and it will be interesting to watch.
