Snap-on Incorporated now deploys an XML-based e-catalog that extends the company’s existing business processes to the Web. We believe that Snap-on’s experience demonstrates how a well-designed XML-based e-catalog avoids the overhead of maintaining product content in a runtime relational database. Snap-on’s experience also demonstrates the importance of planning for catalog maintenance and updates as an integral part of designing an e-catalog.
