Why EMC Acquired Documentum

Towards the Next Generation Platform for Storing and Managing Enterprise Content

EMC Corporation, a company that has made its mark over the past decade by delivering networked storage solutions, plans to acquire Documentum, an industry-leading enterprise content management software provider. EMC has now decided to add application-level intelligence to its infrastructure offering by hitching its future to the enterprise content management marketplace. Documentum customers will benefit from lower cost, long term storage to fixed content assets. We believe that competing enterprise content management vendors will now need to address the persistent storage requirements for the unstructured business information that they produce and manage as part of their product offering.
