Applying the Right Granularity for Services

In a previous report, we described a best-practices framework for identifying services of appropriate granularity. That framework helps to surmount the challenge facing many organizations today: how do we design the “right” services in order to take advantage of the power of service architecture and Web Services? In this report, we apply the best-practices framework to a real-world example. In this case study, a list of candidate services (developed in actual Customer Scenario® Mapping exercises) is refined into a more complete list of the “right” services. In addition, you can see in practice how techniques that you learned with prior generations of IT technology can be repurposed to help you identify and create well-defined services.
